Toyota is known as the automaker when it comes to hybrid cars. Already sporting a full lineup of green vehicles, the automaker decided to ramp up its hybrid offerings even more this year, mainly in the guise of one of their most popular models: the RAV4. The new hybrid crossover debuted at the New York Auto Show this April, and it’s definitely one of the most exciting new hybrid vehicles to come out in sometime.
“Launching this fall, the RAV4 Hybrid will be targeted towards young adventure-seeking couples looking for a vehicle that provides utility, versatility, capability and excellent fuel efficiency,” Toyota said in a press release.
The full RAV4 line is getting an update for the 2016 model year, with a slew of new upgrades, including LED head- and taillights, the addition of the Toyota Safety Sense system and a new four-camera Bird’s Eye View Monitor system. The car is also getting a new SE sport trim that boasts a retuned suspension, a black headliner and 18-inch wheels. On the outside, the RAV4 will be getting a redesigned nose, a lowered grille plate and reshaped headlights.
The RAV4 Hybrid will, of course, vary from its gas-only cousin under the hood. The crossover's hybrid edition is powered by an electric motor and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that runs on the Atkinson cycle. Both axles on the crossover are powered by Toyota’s Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive system. The whole powerplant should get around 176 horsepower.
