
Toyota celebrated Earth Day this April with yet another ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award. This is the automaker’s 11th year winning the prestigious prize, which is given out each year by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Robin Haugen, General Manager of Toyota’s Plant and Environmental Group, said of the award, "Through our team members’ efforts and outstanding collaboration, we have minimized our environmental footprint in communities where we assemble vehicles, engines and parts. We’re so proud to receive our 11th consecutive ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. EPA and we’ll strive to do better."
Toyota has a long history of environmentally-focused business practices, from the products it produces to its efficient manufacturing processes. The ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award recognizes that commitment to fuel and energy efficiency. So what has come out of Toyota's efforts so far?
The Results
- Over $600 million dollars saved since 2002
- Total energy use reduced by 35 percent per vehicle
- A 40 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per vehicle
- Over 300,000 gallons of water saved each year at Alabama plant
- Implemented first “business-to-business landfill gas to energy initiative” in Kentucky
