While it’s sad to see the Scion badge go, we’re excited to announce that many of the lineup’s models will soon be sold as Toyotas. The gorgeous and sporty FR-S coupe has received a new-to-the-U.S. name, while the iA sedan and iM hatchback have been combined with a couple of Toyota’s most popular vehicle lines.
Starting with the FR-S, it will emerge as the 2017 Toyota 86, a name inspired by the brand’s famous rear-wheel-drive 1980s Corolla AE86 coupes. The Toyota 86 moniker is new in the U.S, but has been used in several other countries since the start. Now, America will be in alignment with other markets where the model is sold.
The Scion iA has been incorporated into the Yaris lineup as an available trim level. Similar to the FR-S/86 coupe, it was already offered as the Yaris iA in Mexico and Canada.
So what about the Scion iM? While it was never originally a member of the Corolla family, Scion spokeswoman Nancy Hubbell told Autoblog that it matches up nicely with the Corolla. It also doesn’t hurt that the model will now be marketed under a top-selling nameplate.
When the new 2017 Toyota 86, Yaris iA and Corolla iM come to the Dallas area, we’ll have them on sale at Toyota of Richardson!
