Spring 2022 Auto Maintenance Tips

After driving in the rain and snow during the winter season, your car can start to look dingy once spring arrives. As you prepare for more time spent on the road in the coming months, it's important to perform the right maintenance on your vehicle. Here are a few auto maintenance tips to follow to make your car look and drive like it's new again.

Perform an Oil Change

Changing your engine oil is key to keeping everything operating well under the hood. This task should be performed every 3,000 to 7,500 miles, depending on your make and model. You can also top off other fluids like the brake fluid, steering fluid, and transmission fluid.

Take a look at your windshield wipers to determine if they need to be replaced. They may have reached the end of their lifespan if the rubber is separating from the blades. They are also no longer working well if they create streaks on the windshield.

Wash the Car

Wash the outside of your car and the undercarriage to remove salt and brine from the road. Applying a coat of wax will restore the shine of the vehicle and enhance the color of the paint.

The cabin also needs to be vacuumed out on the seats and floor mats. Remove the floor mats and hose them off to loosen dirt and mud. Deodorizing the car will remove odors that have accumulated, making it necessary to leave an open box of baking soda in the car for several hours while the windows are up.

Remove the Winter Tires

You no longer need winter tires on your car to stay safe on the road in the spring season. Remove the tires and replace them with standard tires, which should be properly inflated based on the manufacturer's recommendations.

Schedule a Check-Up

Hire a mechanic to perform a check-up on your car to look for any parts that are worn down or need to be replaced. They'll look at the battery connection, belts and hoses, filters, and fluids. Reading through the auto repair manual that came with your car can also allow you to do this yourself if you have experience working on cars.
