Squeaking, clicking, or knocking sounds may seem odd if you haven't noticed any other car issues. However, even the most well-maintained cars require repairs from time to time. Below, we offer a list of some odd car sounds and what they may be indicating about your car's condition.
Squeaky Brakes
When you notice squeaking coming from the brakes, it's likely that the brake pads are wearing thin or the rotors are wearing out. This sound may also indicate that you need to have some of the brake parts lubricated.
Engine Rattling
A rattling engine sound is generally a sign of premature ignition. This happens when the air and fuel in the engine cylinder are mixed improperly. If the engine overheats, has poor ignition timing, or the fuel octane ratings are incorrect, the engine will likely ignite prematurely. Any of these issues can cause a major damage to other engine components, so it's best to have one of our well-trained technicians inspect the sound.
Engine Clicking
If you hear a clicking sound from the engine, it's possible that the oil level is too low. You can check your oil levels yourself and restore it to the recommended levels. Or, you can have a service expert check itfor you. If the clicking continues, it may be an issue related to the upper valvetrain.
Knocking From Under the Hood
Some car sounds indicate minor problems, but a knocking sound from under the hood typically indicates a larger issue. You may hear this sound when various engine parts, like pistons, rods, and valves, are not functioning correctly. Any issue causing a knocking sound is a reason to bring your car to our service center.
Engine Squealing
This engine squealing sound is usually the result of problems with the accessory belt or serpentine belt. The serpentine belt may cause this squealing noise in newer vehicles if it's loose or wearing out. In older cars, the accessory belt, responsible for various functions, may cause the same type of sound when it needs to be adjusted or replaced.
When you notice any of the sounds listed above, bring your car into our dealership for an accurate diagnosis and servicing. Our team of helpful service experts will get your car back in shape and running properly.
